People are often curious about their therapist.  You may have stumbled onto my page while doing your own research about therapists, or perhaps you have been matched to me through your EAP program.  See the menu above to navigate to “What to expect” , my professional certifications and trainings are listed below.

I love animals and the ocean, I find peace in connecting with the natural world, especially the abundant nature that we have in our province.  For most of my career, my “day job” was in the non-for-profit sector, and for 13 years, I worked at a local non-profit called Thrive, before moving into full-time private practice.  (If you are interested in a small organization that is doing great things, follow this link to learn more: www.thrivecyn.ca .)  I feel that as a therapist, my own perspectives and experiences with trauma are essential to fostering resilience in myself and with people who choose to share their lives with me. Trauma is part of the human experience, how we are impacted by these experiences is determined by many things in our lives.

As a therapist, my own experiences are integrated into my understanding of trauma and how it affects people. Healing is a journey for everyone and while it is a personal journey, the collective experience is key to developing compassion for others and ourselves.  I approach therapy as a collaboration, I work alongside the people that come to see me as a guide to healing, not as a director of healing.  I feel strongly that getting the right “match” between therapists and the people that choose to see them is the key ingredient for a successful counselling relationship.  If you have questions about me or my approach, please reach out for a 15-minute phone or video consultation, or by email at:  elliejones@killickcounselling.com

What do all the letters mean?! My certifications and training:

Please see below a summary of me, in letters. If you have any questions about my training, education, or certifications, please reach out!

M.Ed. – this means that I have a Masters in Education, specifically in Counselling Psychology.  I graduated from Memorial University’s Counselling Psychology program in 2009.

CCC- this is my counsellor designation.  I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor.  You can look up all what that means here: About Us - Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (ccpa-accp.ca).  Additionally, this is my governing body- if you ever need to make a complaint, you do it through this organization.

CCTP (I and II)- this is my Certified Clinical Trauma Professional designation.  Level I, means that I have completed all the knowledge-based requirements for the treatment of PTSD, specifically with a focus on stabilization and single incident trauma.  Level II means that I have the knowledge and skill requirements for supporting people through the treatment of complex PTSD; specifically this is persistent trauma that may have happened in childhood, or was ongoing in adulthood (or both!).

nd- indicates a that I am a certified naturotherapist. This is relevant for insurance purposes. Some health insurances will cover naturotherapy but not counselling.

The Medicine Woman’s Prayer

“I will not rescue you, for you are not powerless.  I will not fix you, for you are not broken. I will not heal you, for I see you, in your wholeness.  I will walk with you through the darkness as you remember your light.”
